Från lägerelden till nätet

På söndag (22 maj) kommer jag att hålla en föreläsning på Västerbottens museum i samband med det samiska året de organiserar.

Jag kommer att presentera en del av mitt projekt om Internet för språk- och kulturrevitalisering. Utifrån några exempel på nutida samiska berättelser på internet kommer jag att diskutera berättandets roll och funktion idag, samt vad en anpassning av äldre sägner till ett nytt medium innebär.

Master course in Folkloristics

Gotland University offers an Internet-based Master course (Fall 2011) about the Contemporary uses of narratives.

The course approaches aspects such as: Striving for power through storytelling, Negotiation of identities in storytelling, Narrating conflicts, Narrating Mindscapes: oral and visual Storytelling.

The course will be taught by Prof. Ulf Palmenfelt, Prof. Owe Ronström and PhD Carina Johansson.

Cuoŋománnu

April has been a busy month!

The SIEF conference in Lisboa was great and I had interesting discussions with old and new colleagues about digital culture, ”scapes” and cultural heritage (and much more!).

One of the plenary speakers was Charles Briggs, University of California – Berkeley. His work and writings have been a source of inspiration in my research and I was glad to finally meet him in person.

It was a rather big conference, with about 900 participants and many interesting talks. It was of course impossible to attend all of them, and I had wished more of the delegates would tweet! Although there was no official hashtag, a few of us created some twitter flow using #SIEF2011.

Beside conference participation, application for research funding and usual article writings, I have conducted interviews for my project- and more are scheduled for this month.
